"Come, listen closely so you may be warned. Take it from a survivor of hell, a Logic Error is the worst nightmare that a game master can create. An eternity of torture, or the ultimate failure and the loss of any credibility that you once held. Take heed from my story, so that you may never repeat my mistake and never enter unto hell yourselves."
"Rokkenjima, October 4th of 1986. The Ushiromiya family returns for their annual conference, however there is one extra person with them this time. Battler Ushiromiya has returned to the island for the first time in six years after his self-imposed exile following his father's - Rudolf Ushiromiya's - swift marriage to Kyrie Ushiromiya after the death of his first wife and Battler's mother. Upon landing on the island, the family disembarks and is greeted by the servants Genji, Kumasawa, and Shannon, as well as the daughter of the eldest son, Jessica Ushiromiya. While Battler and his cousins spend the day catching up amongst themselves in the guest house, their parents attend a heated conference in the mansion to discuss their father, Kinzo's, inheritance. Krauss, the eldest, insists that their father is still alive and well, and is only not attending because he doesn't like their bickering. His siblings and their spouses don't buy it; they believe Kinzo to be dead and Krauss has been hiding this in order to keep the inheritance all to himself.
"During the conference, a typhoon hits the island and cuts off all outside contact, not that the adults notice as they continue late into the night. Meanwhile, the cousins grew tired after playing games and talking to each other and retired for the night. That morning, the children are awoken by a panicked Rosa. She was crying and shaking the cousins, asking frantically where her daughter, Maria, was and why she wasn't in the bedroom the cousins all shared. As they were trying to calm Rosa down and ask what happened, Hideyoshi came in and said they found everyone.
"The group rushed after him, grabbing their umbrellas, and met up outside the garden shed where they were greeted by a magic circle on the door, written in blood. Hideyoshi explained to the group that Kanon had gone back to the mansion in order to get the key to open the shed up. Moments later, Kanon returns and opens the shed, revealing the grisly scene. Inside the shed, with their faces ground off, were the bodies of Krauss Ushiromiya, Rudolf Ushiromiya, Kyrie Ushiromiya, Shannon, the chef Gohda, and Maria Ushiromiya.”
Krauss, Rudolf, Kyrie, Shannon, Gohda, and Maria are dead!
There are no more than 17 people on the island!
“The family and servants were horrified and saddened by what they found, perhaps none moreso than George Ushiromiya, who had proposed to the servant Shannon the night before. They closed the shed and went inside to try and alert the police, only to find that the external phone lines were down. The family began to throw around suspicions, accusing one another of being the ones responsible for the grisly scene. After much argument, Eva and Hideyoshi had to leave as Eva was beginning to suffer from a massive headache. The two retired to the bedroom they were sharing, all while the family continued to try and piece together what happened in the shed. The servants continued to perform their duties, Jessica mourned with Natsuhi and the orphaned Battler tried to come to terms with the deaths of his parents, and Rosa vowed to find whoever killed her daughter, Maria, and make sure they paid. About an hour later, the family heard the servant Kumasawa scream and they ran to her, finding another magic circle on the door to Eva’s and Hideyoshi’s bedroom. The door was opened, the chain was in place yet cut so they could enter, and inside was the body of Eva Ushiromiya, a stake driven deep into her forehead. Battler and George went to the attached bathroom and found Hideyoshi dead in the bathtub, a stake in his forehead as well. During this discovery, the others noticed a letter on Eva’s bed next to her. They opened it and inside that letter were two things: an order to praise my name and a magic circle.”
Eva and Hideyoshi are dead!
Until they cut the chain lock, nobody other than Eva and Hideyoshi were in their room!
“Figuring the killer was still in the mansion, the family went room to room in an attempt to find this killer. During this search, Kanon and Kumasawa broke off from the group to investigate a smell that seemed to be coming from the basement. Kanon pulled ahead of Kumasawa once the door to the basement was unlocked, greeting them with a strong odor of burnt flesh, and that’s where he confronted me about my actions. I did not tolerate his insubordination, so I struck him down there and then with a stake in the chest. Kumasawa came down and found not only him, but a burned corpse with a stake embedded in its forehead. During all this, the others figured they should find out the meaning of the symbol left in the letter found with Eva; they made their way up to Kinzo’s study and opened it using Genji’s key. They found the study empty, and decided they should arm themselves as well. They took some of the Winchesters on Kinzo’s wall and began reading through the books. Kumasawa ran back upstairs as best as her old bones could move, and the family found the symbol’s meaning: the group was going to split. After they found this, Rosa noticed another letter on the table, one that hadn’t been there before. Inside was a taunt involving the Riddle of the Epitaph, which Rosa concluded had to have been placed there by a servant. She took their keys and expelled them from the study at gunpoint. The newly-exiled servants made their way downstairs and came across Kumasawa, who explained what happened in the basement.”
At this point, Rosa is in possession of all master keys!
“The servants decided to lock themselves in a room of their own for their protection, all while the remaining family stayed locked in the study. It was at this point that the phone in the study rang. After a moment of hesitation, Rosa answered the phone, only to be greeted by the cries for mercy from Kumasawa as she was silenced. After a moment of silence, she heard laughter coming from the phone. Panicking about the possibility of sending the servants to their deaths, Rosa bolted from the study with the rest of the family on her heels. Rosa, using one of the stolen keys, unlocked the door to the room that the servants had thought their safe haven. I was gone when they arrived, however, and the family was treated to the scene of a corpse, which they confirmed was Kinzo’s due to six toes on each foot, dead with a stake in its forehead; Kanon dead in the room, a stake in his chest; Genji dead, a stake in his stomach; Nanjo dead, a stake in his knee; and Kumasawa dead, a stake in her leg.”
All people shown as dead truly are dead!
Battler is the detective! If anybody had slipped out of the room when Rosa opened it, he would’ve seen them!
Until Rosa unlocked the door, it was locked from the inside!
All accomplices are dead!
There is but one culprit!
The culprit was in that room with their victims as they died!
“There it was. At this point, I’d realized my mistake. However, I refused to accept that I was capable of such a glaring error! I refused to acknowledge my error, instead I decided I could find a solution to what seemed to be a loss! I was pulled into the room I left the servants and Kinzo in. Killing them was easy enough, I used the stakes. But then I turned and the door was locked, the windows were closed. I needed to get out of the room, but how…?”
Alright guys, in this game, I’m tasking you with solving my error! You can either spend an eternity in hell or find your way out. I’ll be acting out your solutions, and if you give in and accept defeat, I’ll give the answer.
